With more than 30 years of experience in the healthcare management industry, his hard work has led to the FDA approval of the drugs Cubicin, Omniscan, and Teslascan. While attending the University of California, Berkeley, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Chemistry, and studied at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) where he received his PhD in Chemistry.
Scott Rocklage has revealed that the name of 5AM Ventures came from the fact that they work with science-based startups who are in their earliest stages. Since 5am is early, the name made sense. He helps others bring their ideas to life by narrowing down their ideas into real-world medicines that can offer treatment for conditions that have not been dealt with, as of yet.
When asked about how he stays productive and focused, Scott Rocklage commented that his level of organization has helped him to keep on top of things. He sets priorities, makes a solid calendar, and knows how to manage his time well.
He also suggests that many entrepreneurs could be better if they would focus on taking deliberate and reasoned risks. He has explained in the past that no one will get rich by working for established Fortune 500 companies, and that the best way to financial independence is through entrepreneurship.
Scott Rocklage acknowledges that if he could start over that he would focus a lot more on ensuring that the team he pickes from the very beginning of a company is the right team.
He believes that some of his own stumbling around has come from hiring the wrong person for the job. He says that the best way to overcome this is to move on and eventually find the right person who will make the company better.
