Obsidian Energy was once known as Penn West Petroleum Ltd., until June 26, 2017, when the company formally changed its name. Obsidian Energy is based out of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin, and is a company that produces oil and natural gas.
Following an “accounting scandal, debt crisis, and commodity price crash” which lasted more than three years, Penn West formally announced they were changing their name to Obsidian Energy. The shareholders were pleased and excited with the change. They also changed the stock symbol to “OBE” on the Toronto and the New York Exchange. The name change was the final step in the transformation of the company. The name is not the only thing that has changed, former Calgary CEO, David French, states the company bears no resemblance to the old Penn West.
Penn West had improperly classified hundreds of millions of dollars in expenses; this was discovered in July 2014, resulting in the 2012 and 2013 finance reports requiring restatement. Obsidian Energy has already reduced the debt margin created by Penn West from nearly $3 billion at years end in 20013, to $384 million by this past March 31st.
By cutting their debt ratio, and scaling back on the overall company size, Obsidian Energy has made great changes in the way the company handles its business. The research involved advertising test for five consumer brands with five different services and, product categories. That is the first research that comprised pre-and post-campaign brand that was meant to boost the podcast advertiser that was carried out over the last half of 2016. The study exhibited the substantial positive influence of the podcast advertising on brand recall, intent to buy and recall specific messaging. The discoveries from the research include:
- More than 60 percent of the audience pointed out a particular grocery brand in the post-study campaign, and the figure was up from seven percent among listeners in the pre-study.
- Unsupported product responsiveness increased from a pre-study to the post-study by 37 percent for automotive aftermarket products and 47 percent for financial service products, lawn, and garden products grew by 24 percent.
- During the post-study, more than 25 percent of the respondents displayed a favorable opinion of an automotive aftermarket product right from 18 percent in the pre-study. During the post-study, 22 percent of the respondents claimed that they were likely to ponder using garden product and lawn up from 16 percent in the pre-study.
- Responsiveness for a particular campaign message for an automotive aftermarket product went up by 60 percent from a pre-study to the post-study.
In 2016, Edison Research managed to carry out three distinct studies on behalf PodcastOne. The mandate of the research was to examine and know how useful podcast advertising was in the five top brands.
